What is your business? JM Janitorial Maintenance – Residential and Commercial Cleaning – Construction clean up, spring cleaning, carpet cleaning, move in/move out cleaning and regular maintenance of your property.
What inspired you to start your own business? Coming out of a corporate environment where my position as an HR Manager was advisory, I desired to find something where I was more directly responsible for the final results.
What do you enjoy about your work? Being able to assist others with their cleaning needs, completing a project that satisfies the client and is challenging and satisfying for my team.
What role does networking play in growing and managing your business? Very important role. I approach networking as opportunity to establish a familiarity and a trust on a personal basis. This can be through groups such as PWN, personal interests and relationships with other professionals whose clients may be interested in our services.
What’s your favorite tip for success with networking? Network to establish a relationship before expecting business from networking.
How do you think being a woman in your profession has been more or less challenging than your male counterparts? I think it is about the same. Being successful in your business is about your ability to relate to the challenge of the job and to successfully pass that information along to your client.
What is one the most challenging work situations you’ve faced, and how your did you resolved it? One of the biggest challenges that I face is being flexible enough to accomplish the work for each client and to simultaneously satisfy the needs of my team. Without my team, the work would not get done. And without our clients, we would not have work!! Flexibility and balance are both very important.
What do you do for fun? Walking with my dog Sadie, hiking, traveling and generally being outdoors.
What is something PWN members don’t know about you? I lived in Germany for five years and was in charge of recreation centers for american military personal who were stationed there. My motive besides work: traveling throughout Europe.
What are you reading? Usually crime, espionage, and novels based on true events. Today, it’s a history lesson: Guns, Germs and Steel – The Fate of Human Societies.
